How to find your deep well of creativity and knowing

I used to think my creativity comes from suffering and drugs.
Access to this magical land was given to me only when earned.
Behind lock and key, I was privy to amazing writing, editing and ideas I could have only dreamt of. But without proper preparation and care, without discipline and guidance, it eluded me.
I’m happy to say I’ve found a way around all this which turned out to be straight through all this madness: right at the pit of my stomach sits my creativity.

Meditating today, I stripped away all meaning from my thoughts:
What my phone vibrating meant, what my stomach rumbling meant…
I just listened to the sensations my body offered up –
And ideas gurgled up like fresh water from a spring.

Don’t get me wrong: Structure is the key to freedom for us creatives.
But the staircase to it cannot be built if we do not know where to!
First we must stop trying to be anyone but ourselves, which honestly takes a life time.
I for one am constantly on a mission to be more likeable, more successful and beautiful.
While ignoring my own unique experiences I am unable to share these and mould them into new ideas.

And they say there is no fate, but there is: it’s what you create.
Even though the world goes on for eons and eons, you are here for a fraction of a fraction of a second. – Charlie Kaufman

What makes us US is not the labels we or others assign to us:
It’s what we leave behind once we’re gone.
Approach your creativity like this, a nugget of gold after the layers of mud have been washed away.
It’s the truths we feel so deeply we have never thought of articulating them.
The pain we’re so ashamed of we swore we’d take it to our graves with our tired bones.
But if we did, it would invalidate our entire lives as artists.
And I believe all humans are artists if they express unique thoughts with pride!

A deep breath, a dropping of the shoulders, an uncurling of our foreheads – I am home again
Whenever I am lost in feelings or stuck for ideas,
I return to baseline, my deep well of knowing inside.
